Wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik, opener Shikhar Dhawan, all-rounder Irfan Pathan and seamers Umesh Yadav and Vinay Kumar have earned recalls to India's ODI squad for next month's Champions Trophy.
Fast bowlers Ashok Dinda and Shami Ahmed, batsmen Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh and Ajinkya Rahane, who were all part of the series against England in January, have been dropped.
Batsman Cheteshwar Pujara was not considered for selection due to injury. The veteran Virender Sehwag and Harbhajan Singh, too, were unable to make a late push for the final 15-man squad after their exclusion from the provisional 30-strong party.
Gambhir's omission has capped a poor run of form in ODIs recently, which brought a mere 34 runs in three innings against Pakistan and just 127 in five matches against the English. Yuvraj, meanwhile, has recorded only one half-century in eight ODIs since the completion of his cancer treatment.
Dhawan, Irfan and Yadav have recovered from respective finger, knee and back injuries, while leg-spinner Amit Mishra has been retained as one of three frontline slow bowlers alongside off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.
Karthik's call-up is arguably the most surprising, with an outstanding stretch of form for Tamil Nadu in first-class competition and 331 runs in 10 games at a strike rate of 140 for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League ending his near three-year hiatus from international cricket.
India have been pooled with Pakistan, the West Indies and South Africa in Group B, with their campaign underway against the Proteas at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on 6 June.
Squad: Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Dinesh Karthik, Murali Vijay, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Irfan Pathan, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Amit Mishra, Vinay Kumar.
